                                                    University of Kelaniya has very proud history. It is situated at Dalugama, Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.So many valuable characters are given to the world by this university.In today more than 15000 undergraduate students are studies at university of Kelaniya.

                                          In 1875 Rev.Rathmalane Sri Daramaloka founded the Vidyalankara piriwena at Peliyagoda , Sri Lanka as a centre of learning for Buddhist monks .In 1959 Vidyalankara piriwena become a Vidyalankara University.But at that time Vidyalankara University was only open for monks and boys. In 1966 Vidyalankara University opened for girls for the first time. In 1967 Science faculty was started. In 1972 Vidyalankara University become a Vidyalankara Mandapaya Sri Lanka and in 1975 Vidyalankara Mandapaya moved Peliyagoda to Dalugama. And in 1978 Vidyalankara Mandapaya Become University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka.

                                                                           In Today University of  Kelaniya is the 3rd best University in Sri Lanka and world rank is 2691. The present chancellor is Ven. Welamitiyawe Dharmakirthi Sri Kusala Dhamma Thero and the vice chancellor is Prof. Semasinghe Dissanayake. There are 771 academic staff and 637 non-academic staff works in University of Kelaniya. In today there is 7 faculties in University of  Kelaniya.
